Car Lease Calculation Methodology & Formulas

Auto leases differ from standard amortizing car loans. Instead of paying down the vehicle's entire purchase price, you finance only the anticipated depreciation that occurs during your specific possession period, plus a monthly finance rent charge.

1. Monthly Depreciation Fee

Adjusted Cap Cost = Agreed Selling Price + Acquisition Fee - Down Payment - Trade-in Equity
Residual Dollar Value = MSRP × Residual Percentage
Monthly Depreciation Fee = (Adjusted Cap Cost - Residual Value) ÷ Lease Term

2. Monthly Finance Fee (Rent Charge)

Monthly Rent Charge = (Adjusted Cap Cost + Residual Value) × Money Factor
Equivalent APR % = Money Factor × 2,400
